Practical Applications of Table Partitioning

Rule-based table partitioning is the most significant enhancement to Ingres since the multi-threaded server architecture was adopted in Release 6.  At a stroke, it solves all of the most intractable problems of managing very large tables; it facilitates true parallel query execution, and it is also highly effective at solving some tricky problems even in small databases.  In this presentation I look at some of the less obvious benefits of partitioning, and also some of the potential pitfalls that need to be avoided.

The presentation is in the form of 31 Microsoft PowerPoint 2003 slides, zipped to 48kb and inflating to 208kb.
