A recurring complaint we hear from our clients is about Ingres DB
connectivity. On the desktop, many users seem to be convinced that you just can't access
Ingres data through the MS Office applications they are so familiar with. Or that you
cannot use a standard reporting tool such as Crystal Reports because 'it doesn't work with
Ingres'. On the server things are apparently just as bad: many clients are not sure if
they can connect their J2EE application with an Ingres database. There seems to be a
widespread belief that commonly-used and familiar desktop applications 'don't come with
Ingres drivers'. There is also uncertainty about JDBC connectivity on the server.
As a result we find that many users think that accessing their organisation's data
is difficult because it is held in an Ingres database. Nothing could be further from
the truth!
In this presentation we show how Excel, Access, and Word can access Ingres data.
We show that using Crystal Reports to generate reports from an Ingres database is
no different than generating them from any other database management system. We show
how to seamlessly integrate Outlook and Ingres to manage customer contacts.
We walk through a complete, working J2EE
aplication that uses Ingres for its repository and we show how to use any one of several
JDBC drivers with it. We even show how to reverse-engineer an Ingres database in
Visio with just a few keystrokes.
The presentation is in the form of 61
Microsoft PowerPoint 2000 slides, zipped to 31kb and inflating to 143kb.
