Doing More with QEPs than Just Gawping
Karl Schendel & Roy Hann, first presented at Ingres World 2001, London, England.

Home

This two-part presentation goes beyond merely reading QEPs and discusses how to actually use QEPs to solve performance problems.   The first part is a review of query plans and the operations that the server can apply to execute a query.  The second part shows, through the use of a series of case-studies, how the query plans can be made more accurate, and hence how the execution time of the queries can be reduced.  A number of tell-tale signs are discussed and solutions shown, illustrated with the use of benchmarks.

The presentation is in the form of 45 Microsoft PowerPoint 2000 slides, zipped to 108kb and inflating to 340kb.
