Relational database management systems (RDBMS) such as Ingres are optimized to handle very large sets of data, but batch applications do not always exploit this capability.  This presentation reviews some of the techniques that can be used to improve the performance of batch applications by factors up to 30 or more.  This is accomplished by making full use of the power of the server, and the kind of mental adjustment that is sometimes required to do this effectively is illustrated with a simple case study.

The presentation is in the form of 65 Microsoft PowerPoint 2000 slides, zipped to 47kb and inflating to 160kb.
