The (corrected) version of
BenchmarkSQL provided here includes
an example ingres.properties
file (which you must edit to point to your own local Ingres JDBC jar
file), and two essential bug fixes that are not in the version available from
SourceForge.net. |
This software is
provided as-is, and no support is offered. However we do
want
to
hear about any problems you may encounter. |

BenchmarkSQL is an excellent tool
for testing the effects of your tuning and configuration changes, but
it would be unwise to attempt to use it to compare hardware
platforms or different DBMSs. It is exquisitely sensitive
to server tuning—we have achieved improvements of over 1,300%
using perfectly admissible, everyday techniques. |

The BenchmarkSQL package includes a utility
for generating test data. Because a 10 warehouse database is so big,
generating test data is quite slow. |
 |
|
|
Gotcha:
When you run the benchmark you configure the number of terminals and warehouses
to use. Typically you will use perhaps 30 terminals and 10 warehouses.
If you see a sudden massive improvement in performance make sure that you
have not accidentally transposed the number of terminals and the number of
warehouses! |

The original (buggy) BenchmarkSQL tool can be found at
SourceForge.net, although
its original maintainers seem to have lost interest in it, and have not posted a
version with the bug fixes needed for Ingres. |
